Bubbles, Bumps, and Pearls--Irresistable!

Bubbles, Bumps, and Pearls--Irresistable!

Candlewicking is a charming style of embroidery where tiny knots come together to form larger, textured designs. Hobnails are raised bumps that create dotted patterns on glass or ceramic surfaces. Beading refers to those delightful bubbles, pearls, or round ball shapes that line the edges of furniture, frames, or dishware. Each one is a decorative element made from different materials and used on different kinds of objects, yet they all share that same playful, whimsical spirit. I don’t know why, but I’m endlessly drawn to this kind of embellishment. Whether it’s stitched textiles, carved furniture, or vintage glassware, I fall in love with anything that carries these joyful little details.

One of my absolute favorite discoveries is Anchor Hocking’s Berwick Boopie glassware. I adore the glass bubbles that trim the edges of otherwise simple, sleek forms. The way the light catches those little balls—and the way they feel in your hand—makes them irresistible. Whenever I come across a piece, I scoop it up without hesitation, and over time I’ve gathered a whole collection of mismatched treasures. I can’t help myself. This style of decoration just delights me every single time.
